“I’m a 22 year old man and I have a stuttering problem that comes and goes. One month I’ll speak fluently and fine then it will randomly come back and affect my speech pattern. I think it has to do with anxiety or shyness because it only becomes an issue when I don’t feel comfortable”. – Ryan H
Thanks for the opportunity here Ryan, you know it sounds like you have a pretty good start with your ABILITY. What I mean by that is we all carry ability within us for GREATNESS. Speaking in public is certain a GREAT feat of courage and responsibility; courage in the face of opinion and responsibility to share your knowledge and experience with others who are listening. I invite you try a “energy releasing” technique which may help you in this endeavor.
Our energy, the voice we project and the thoughts we think, have a direct response to nature which includes other human beings. If you can channel your own energy with conviction, determination but be humble at the same time then you’ve found a special and unique technique to help you for years to come. Here’s how you do it:
Go to the bathroom and carry a mock speech with you, perhaps it’s one you’ve offered for class OR make up one! Create a speech that you are going to give to 1,000 people that’s on a topic you’re utterly scared to talk about. Write it down all nice and neat, format it the way you want. Now once you enter the bathroom take a quick glance at it and toss it away, leave it literally outside! Look yourself in the mirror and start your speech. No, there’s no need to open the door and grab your notes, your 3×5 card, START SPEAKING. Speak from your gut, speak to YOUR EXPERIENCES, speak from your H.E.A.R.T (Have Every Able Reassurance Tackled). You will stutter, you will forget, you will feel dumb – SO WHAT? You have something to share that is exciting! People want to hear from you, it’s your DUTY to tell them and express to them how important your information is to them. Visualize the entire crowd there in the mirror looking directly back at you, with their curiosity, doubt, confusion, excitement and amazement all the while keeping a S.M.I.L.E (Smiling Merely Indicates Laughter and Excitement).
I’d love to hear your speech, send it my way friend!
Blessings and strength,
